“The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.”

“This is one more example of a disturbing pattern of conspiratorial actions on the part of the Walker administration.”
Peter Earle, Voces de la Frontera’s lead attorney stated, “It’s now clear why Scott and Jeff Fitzgerald tried so hard to keep these documents hidden under their bogus claim of ‘attorney-client privilege.’ We now have documents that prove that the Republican leadership of the legislature was paying hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to private attorneys with the express purpose of hiding the legislative redistricting process from the public and from those legislators who had not signed secrecy agreements. This amounts to a conspiracy to violate the prohibition of legislative secrecy contained in Article IV, § 10 of the Wisconsin constitution. The conduct is repugnant to every principle of good government.” - Voces de la Frontera
All the agreements were also signed by Eric McLeod of Michael Best & Friedrich, one of several attorneys who advised lawmakers on the maps. Legislative leaders have committed $400,000 in taxpayer money to pay Michael Best and the Troupis Law Office for their work on the maps….

The case goes before the three-judge panel Feb. 21 to hear the group’s arguments that the maps violate the U.S. Constitution and federal Voting Rights Act because of the way they treat minority communities and move voters from one district to another.-MJS
My fear - and it has building for a decade and a half, because I’ve seen this movement up-close from within and also on the front lines of the marriage wars - is that once one party becomes a church with unchangeable doctrines, and once it has supplanted respect for institutions and civility with the radical pursuit of timeless doctrines and hatred of governing institutions, then our democracy is in grave danger.”

That’s Fred Upton getting an earful from his angry constituents. By the way, he got appointed to the new federal Super-Committee and he’s a U.S. Congressman from Michigan.
I almost feel sorry for the Republicans because of all the backlash they’re getting at these town halls, but then I remember that they only have themselves to blame. If they want to screw over the middle class and the poor, the elderly and the sick, the people who government is supposed to protect and help day after day in Congress then they better get used to some unhappy constituents back home. No sympathy here.

to disinfect their water, the next we’re imposing a #voterID bill on small towns that will have a substantial financial impact”
On out-of-state GOP signature gathering for money. Unverified information. Gleaned from the tumblr of l3fan-o-rama:
REBLOG, PLEASE.
This is what is happening during the counting of recall signatures for DEMOCRATIC senators in Wisconsin.
Spread the word. This is unfuckingbelievable.
well, i for one am glad that our corporate overlords have seen fit to share their wealth with some of the commoners. you know, $2 a signature during a recession beats the shit out of working at mcdonald’s.
