Wisconsin GAB to the Press: “You may not contact (interview) voters when they are in line waiting to vote.”

“It is illegal and totally inappropriate for media or observers to be talking to voters who are still waiting in line to vote.”
Reports came through social media that a Milwaukee television station (TMJ4) interviewed people as they were waiting in line to vote on the evening of the June 5th 2012 recall election in Wisconsin. Furthermore, social media reports stated that the interviewer(s) asked people in line why they were going to vote when the press had already called the race for Scott Walker.

*Voters and poll observers should closely watch the press’ behavior at poll places and alert the local poll chief of any violation of the law by the media.
*The press should make themselves aware of Wisconsin law and anticipate that others will closely document their infractions of Wisconsin election law.
You can even register on election day, Wisconsin.
You only need to bring proof of residence if you’re planning on registering at the polls today. If you’re already registered, you will not need to show ID (or anything else).
To register at the polls, you will need 1) a driver’s license or state ID number or the last 4 digits of your social security number if you don’t have a license or state ID; and 2) proof of residence, such as an item suggested above. Any document issued by a unit of that has your full name and current address could also work for your proof of residence (ex: report card from a public high school or university). As of August, 2012, you can present your proof of residence in electronic form, if that’s easier.

WI Vote FAQ: What happens if a voter refuses to the sign the poll list?
If the voter refuses to sign the poll list, a ballot shall not be issued.
However, electors who have a disability that prevents them from physically being able to sign the poll list are exempt from this provision. If another person signed the voter’s registration form because the voter was unable to sign due to disability, the election inspector writes the word “exempt” on the signature line. If the voter is already registered but the voter claims to be unable to sign due to physical disability, and both inspectors concur, the inspectors shall enter the words “exempt by order of inspectors” on the signature line. If both inspectors do not waive the signature requirement, the voter shall be allowed to cast a ballot and the inspector or inspectors who did not waive the requirement shall challenge the ballot.
